Unique Blog Hop

My post today is a little different than usual... I am participating in a Unique Blog Hop! It's a fun way for bloggers to get to know each other, for our readers to get to know us a little better, and maybe even introduce you to some new blogs!

I was tagged by my friend Donna at Lakefront Stamping Creations. We "met" several years ago when we were both demonstrators with The Angel Company, and after TAC closed, we served a term on a design team together. She makes the most elegant cards, and I am always envious when she pulls off a gorgeous card with a sentiment as the focal point. (I just can't do that!) You will definitely want to go have a peek around her blog!

So, now it is my turn to answer a few questions, and then tag a couple of bloggers that I admire. Here it goes...

1. What is my style, and how does my work differ from others?

I've always described my cards as "fairly" clean and simple. They go beyond the "less in more" concept for clean and simple cards, but I think they still have a clean, fresh look to them. I like lots of color, a few layers here and there, and I use very few embellishments (if any). Mostly, I just LOVE to color! I like to color up an adorable image and have it be the center of attention on my card.

I'm really not sure how my card-making differs from others... I just like to make something that I think looks pretty, and don't pay much attention to trends.

2.  What am I working on?

I can't tell you... it's TOP SECRET!

I'm only kinda kidding... I design for several different companies, so even when I am not posting on my blog, I am always working on something behind the scenes. Currently, I have a whole lot of partially colored images sitting on my desk, (this is only a few of them) and a couple of cards for upcoming releases that I can't show you yet!

3. How does my creative process work?

I am a SLOOOOOOW card-maker. It's a long, slow process for me!

I pretty much always use a colored image on my card, and typically they are cute people. I usually print/stamp out a bunch of images at once, and I always have my most-used Copic skin tones handy for coloring. That way, I can grab it all and color anywhere, anytime. So, I often have a bunch of images sitting around with just their skin and hair colored in! Once I have a chance to sit at my desk, I'll grab some images, and pick out papers to go with. Then I'll clip them all together, maybe even doodle a little sketch, or print one from a sketch challenge blog that I want to use, and set it all aside until I have time to color the entire image in. Seriously, I usually have a dozen cards in the works at once!

4. Why do I create?

For ME. Yes, I will admit that I am a selfish crafter! I worked full-time as a teacher until my youngest turned one, and now I am a stay-at home mom to my 3 kiddos... 7 year old twin girls, and a 6 year old boy. Life is busy, but crafting is very relaxing for me. I love to sew, cross-stitch, color with Copics, make cards and other papercrafted items. I do send the occasional card in the mail, and I love to make little treats for the kiddos. I even sewed my girls a couple of dresses for school this year! So, even though I do make things for other people, the real reason I create is because I enjoy the process, and I love sharing what I make! :)

Now, I get to tag two ladies that I admire very much...

First up is Julie at The Last Minute Crafter. First of all, I wish I had thought of that blog name, because it suits me to a T! I have had the privilege of working on several design teams with this immensely talented lady! I adore her ability to make a clean and simple card using a colored image... her sweet style is what I strive for! I hear she has A LOT to share with you all next week! :)

Next is Angela at Just Monkeying Around... yet another super cute blog name! Angela and I also "met" on a design team a couple of years ago, and she is really just one of the sweetest people I have gotten to know through crafting. And talk about talented... I envy the way she can mix patterns and stack layers. Her cards are perfectly pleasing to the eye!

These lovely ladies will be continuing this Unique Blog Hop on their own blogs next Monday, September 15th... but you might want to just head over and follow them now if you don't already!

Thanks so much again to Donna for inviting me to be part of this fun hop!

And thanks to my readers if you made it through today's lengthy post!

:-) Thanks Laura! I might as well copy your post because I too am a super slow crafter most of the time!

Hi Laura!

I was fun getting to know you a little bit in this post. :) I adore your style and your coloring. You are so talented with the Copics. I often admire your ability to create hair! That sounds odd, but I like seeing the strands you develop. I was surprised that you have so many images that you work on at one time. I need to try that! Loved seeing the faces colored.

Oh and I enjoy doing counted cross stitch, too! :)

Have a great day!
